Painted Shaker style solid wood with quartz worktop

The old kitchen was a dark cherry laminate with black countertops.
Together with the black/brown flooring in the dining area, the room felt quite dreary and gloomy, even with the large window beside the dining table.
The kitchen/dining room was closed off from the living room.

After much discussion with the clients, it was decided that the dividing wall between kitchen and living room be removed and the kitchen window widened in order to maximize the amount of natural light entering the room.
Upon removing the wall however, it was discovered that the wall included a vertical beam to support the centre of the ceiling and indeed the upper level of the house.

The clients finalized their appliance choices and the sizes and proportions were included in the design.
We initially designed the room to switch the dining area to the other side of the room but later reversed that decision as the sofa better suited that side of the room.

As the hardwood floors were installed before the kitchen, which is common practice, we covered the floor with a sturdy, protective covering during cabinetry installation.
